  • Know what you want: Search through your mind, decide what you want.
  • Evaluate what you have: Before setting goals, evaluate the resources that you have so that you won’t set unrealistic goals.
  • Don’t be short-sighted: Look into the future, set goals that can stand the test of time. Try to find out what technology is likely to be used in the future.
  • Do a background check on people who have had similar plans. Where did they fail? What did they do that helped them? These questions will set you on the right path.

Set plans: Anyone who fails to plan has automatically planned to fail. For anyone or an organization that has a future in sight, planning is essential. Planning is designing ways to achieving the set goals. What are the advantages of planning?

Identifying what your strengths and weaknesses are is very important. If you don’t do that, you will keep making the same mistake every time. Some people make the mistake of only investing in their strengths, but their weaknesses will catch up with them somehow. Once you have identified them, work on yourself. What are those things that trigger your weakness? Is it anger? Is it anxiety? Is it wants? Work on these things.

Be open to constructive criticism: To grow, you need honest reviews from colleagues and superiors. Don’t be annoyed when you are corrected. Don’t ever ignore your mistakes. Don’t shy away from Challenges: Challenges are bound to happen. It’s only weak people that fail to try because of failure. Come out of your comfort zone, try and break new ground. Do not falter when new challenges come. See them as an opportunity to be a better person.

 Make judicious use of your time: Time is money. Time is the most accessible commodity to spend, and it is the hardest to gain. Time lost cannot be regained again. Value time; without it, you can’t be successful in the future. We are in a competitive world; time spent wisely is spent well.

Be respectful: “If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go farther, go with the right people.” Respect will earn you people – People who are willing to help you. You will need people in the future. You may be good and have all you need, but you will need people at some point. Your attitude to people will be evident in the future.

As you analyze different scenarios, you are opened to learning new things which flexibly improve your thinking. Flexibility gives you a general awareness.

Enhances strategic thinking: When you prepare for the future, your thinking improves. You will make better plans as you improve. You are opened to learning new things when you plan. It increases your knowledge. The more complex task you are involved in, the more strategic it improves you. Multitasking becomes easy when you train your mind with this.

What do you need for the future?

  1. People: You need people for the future. You can’t do it alone. It would help if you had connections with the right people. Anyone who has the future in sight will prioritize people. However small a person might look, they can be helpful. Prioritize relationships with the right people.
  2. Money: You need resources for the future. Wealth to sustain your plans for the future. Without money, plans will be frustrated.
  3. Good health: Another important thing needed is good health. Health is wealth. It is a healthy person that can plan or execute plans for the future. It would help if you prioritized your health. You can spend money and time meant for the future on your health if you don’t take care of it. Eat good food, rest very well and do a regular check-up.
  4. A legacy: You need to create a lasting legacy for the future. Steve Jobs died in his 50s, but his legacy lives on. It would help if you had a good legacy that will speak for you when you can’t work again.
  5. Resilience and consistency: In the journey to the future, there will be ups and downs. Your resilience and consistency. Don’t look back on where you have fallen; look forward to how you can be better.
