“The mental flexibility of the wise man permits him to keep an open mind and enables him to readjust himself whenever it becomes necessary for a change.” – Malcom X

In order to venture into society, we must master our mindset and take control of our thoughts and thinking patterns. And to do so we must find a way to interact with people and their beliefs while all the while not losing our own. Flexible thinking is essential when it comes to creating a change, especially in the work field. Because if you are unable to cooperate with your coworkers and see the world from their point of view, you are never going to be able to allow them to see the world for yours.

What “master your mindset” truly means

This main problem with society nowadays is people’s inability to accept other people’s opinions. If they contradict their own. This rigid mindset has led to millions of arguments and misunderstandings and even rebellions. Even with all the development that our world has endured over the past 1000 years, we still are unable to accept that not everyone is going to agree with us and have the same beliefs that we do. However, that doesn’t make them wrong. It just makes them different. And different is not wrong.

Mastering your mindset doesn’t only mean being open to other ideas. It also means being able to train your mind to enhance your cognitive flexibility. And that enables you to keep an open mind to change, as discussed in the quote above. If a person lacks mental flexibility, their ability to move forward when they meet a failure or roadblock will be majorly stunted. And instead, they will end up stuck in the same position wallowing about their failures, fearing the world beyond. Mental flexibility allows you to surpass your failures and get back up to seek new opportunities no matter how many times you’ve been beaten down.
