Seventy-five per cent of the sector’s emissions are caused by road transportation, and this trend is expected to continue. The number of automobiles on our roadways is predicted to quadruple by 2050. However, if we focus on a circular economy, the transport damage caused to the world could decrease.   

The fuel that powers our automobiles dramatically impacts the environment, but the consequence of making those cars is frequently disregarded. Steel, plastics, Glass, aluminum, rubber, paint, and other materials used in vehicle construction are produced using a lot of carbon, and there seems to be no way all the raw material could be recycled.  

Here are some ways you can contribute to the circular economy of transportation:

There is hardly any way you can recycle or reuse vehicles, so what can you do to contribute to the environment? Additionally, it is anticipated that the production of one automobile will need 39,000 gallons of water and that of one tire 500 gallons. According to these figures, automobile sharing is the best method for ensuring long-term environmental health. It would help if you opted for this option to contribute to circular economy in transport.  

2. Drive Used Vehicles  

For instance, reusing and remanufacturing an engine emits up to 85% less carbon than producing a brand-new one. By 2050, this plan would contribute to a 38 million tonne CO2 equivalent annual reduction. Imagine how much you could contribute to circular economy transport if you chose to use vehicles that have been used by someone else.   

With interventions like remanufacturing engines or retreading tries to keep them in use, we may progress towards a circular economy for transportation. However, we need to alter the system if we want to realize the possibilities of a circular economy for transportation fully. For this, we need to educate people about the harm that vehicles cause to the environment and the importance of the contribution of every individual in the circular economy of transport.

By 2050, 89 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent would be saved annually by making automobiles lighter, which would need fewer resources to manufacture and less energy to power. Engineers can make vehicles that work on electricity and solar power and save a lot of non-renewable energy.

Almost all cars or any other auto pieces may be recycled with a recycling rate of more than 90% for a standard vehicle.  

Tires, windshield glass, batteries, steel and iron, wheels, radiators, gearboxes, rubber hoses, carpets, vehicle seats, belts, oil filters, and mats are frequently recycled automotive components.  

 When building new roads, recycled tires are frequently used as the pavement basis. Glass from recycled vehicle parts is used to make jewellery, glass beads, porcelain, worktops, and tile flooring.
