My boss doesn’t communicate with me, why? Do you know that this could be detrimental to the progress of the company? An insightful and communicative boss can make the toughest days easier. A boss that doesn’t communicate can make every bit of your working hours crazy.
Not everyone can communicate. We meet with this set of people in all areas of life. How stressful will it be when you have a boss that doesn’t communicate?
What is Communication?
Communication is a process by which we exchanged information between individuals through a medium. Communication has remained one of the important leadership skills. The key to a company’s progress lies in the communication between the employees and their boss.
Communication is fundamental to human existence and survival. Also, for the survival of any organization, communication is pivotal. Being able to communicate is an important life skill. Many also define it as creating and sharing ideas, information, views, facts, etc. among people to reach common knowledge.
The medium of communication should be clear. If the information passed across during the process is not understood by the receiver, communication isn’t done. There are two main characters in communication: which are the sender (s) and the receiver (s).
Comprehending the information sent by the sender is the goal. When information is passed through any medium, the receiver must assimilate the content. A piece of information is useless if the receiver can not understand the details.
Why Communication is Important?
As an employee, you will not know what your boss wants if they don’t communicate. A boss might be highly loaded and intelligent, they become irrelevant if he lacks excellent communication skills. A leader must communicate his directions to his followers to get the work done properly.
A company needs a boss who will effectively manage its business. As earlier said, a boss’s intelligence and knowledge become irrelevant if they lack excellent communication skills. The boss communicates targets and goals to the workers and then allocates roles.
We need communication for fluent workflow. Necessary information is being disseminated at the right time. The workers know what is in the mind of their leader. It helps to know what are to do per time.
Leadership involves coordination. We cannot achieve coordination without communication.
Structure and Organization
To maintain structure and proper organization in a company, a leader must communicate with the workers. Without effective communication, the company will lack structure. Anybody can do things the way they want.
Adequate decision making
Workers grow to understand their bosses well with effective communication. They can make quality decisions that will move the company forward in the absence of their bosses.
“One good turn deserves another”; part of good communication is praising and acknowledging good deeds. It helps to boost the workers’ morale.
When there are no rules and regulations that guide a company, workers abuse that liberty. We expect leaders to communicate the rules and regulations that the workers must follow.
Workers work in isolation when there is no communication. When bosses and their employees communicate, it aids teamwork. It also helps in getting tasks done within a short time.
The process of communication is continuous. The communication process involves three fundamental elements: Sender, message, and receiver. To see how the receiver got the message, the sender may ask for feedback. Besides this, there are other important elements of communication which are explained below.
This is the source of the message or information to be passed down to the receiver.
It is the content of the information intended to pass across to the receiver.
We encode the message to be communicated as words, pictures, code, etc.
Information can be passed across through different means. The medium includes written words or oral means. Nowadays, we have several means of passing information. Examples are emails, voice calls, video calls, fax, encrypted means, etc.
A receiver is the recipient of the message sent from the sender.
In some cases, we require feedback if the receiver understood the content of the message.
Things to communicate
Employees look up to their bosses for information, insight, guidelines, and lots more. Bosses are role models for their employees.
The reason why My Boss doesn’t Communicate
There are lots of reasons your boss doesn’t communicate with you. Your boss’s failure in communication doesn’t mean they are bad people. Let’s check out some reasons.
The Boss is new
If your boss is new, that might hinder communication. Not everyone settles down quickly in a new place. The boss might want to study and understand everything and everyone around the company.
Being too busy is one of the major reasons some bosses don’t communicate. They have a lot of things at hand than to prioritize communication.
Some people find it difficult to communicate properly. Often, managers are chosen based on their technical skills rather than interpersonal skills. An introverted boss finds it difficult to communicate with his followers.
Lack of confidence
Irrespective of position or role, some leaders find it difficult to communicate with their followers. They rather not talk because they don’t have the confidence. Sometimes, the boss does the work meant for the workers because of a lack of confidence to lead.
Another reason is if your boss is overloaded with information. Effective communication is about direction and clarity.
Family problems and challenges can be another reason. People find it hard to concentrate when they have a family crisis. Is your boss less friendly than he used to be? Something is wrong.
Work first, less familiarity
Some bosses only care about work and have less familiarity with their workers. They feel a familiarity with workers can give room for disrespect. It could be a hindrance.
Effects of inadequate communication
Following are the Effects of inadequate communication
No matter how big a company might be, a lack of communication will inhibit its potential. The efficiency of a workforce is not in how big it is. It is in how well they are informed and used.
Resources might be available for workers in a company and still be less productive. Lack of communication leads to low productivity.
Unconducive working environment
The working environment becomes unconducive when your boss doesn’t communicate. You can’t tell what he wants or how he wants things done.
Lack of direction
The company lacks direction when the boss doesn’t communicate. Employees need a constant reminder of the values and goals of the company. Yet, this can only be achieved by effective communication.
Ways to make your boss communicate
Here are some effective ways to make your boss communicate.
One of the most powerful tools to make your boss communicate is asking questions. Ask questions to get clarity about the information or task given to you. It is not bad to ask questions. Moreover, it is a subtle way of telling your boss there is a communication gap.
Sometimes workers blame their bosses for poor communication. Whereas it is them who are not paying attention. Do your part by listening attentively, maintaining eye contact, and noting things down sometimes.
Be actively engaged
A silent and unresponsive listener can easily kill off a conversation. Be actively involved in a conversation with your boss. Drop affirmative conversational lines such as “Okay”, “Very well sir”, “Sure thing sir” etc. This helps to keep the conversation alive.
Find out your boss’s communications preference
We are all human beings and our preferences are different. Find out how best your boss likes to communicate. Some like to send emails, video calls, or one on one conversations.
Arrange recurring one-on-one meetings
Most time, the root cause of the lack of communication is insufficient time. Regular private meetings help to keep up with the tasks at hand.
Provide positive feedback
At the end of a brief meeting, respond with positive feedback that will encourage your boss. For instance, you can say “thank you for those insightful words” or “with everything you have said, the sky is our starting point”. Consistent positive feedback improves your boss’s communication skills.
Come straight about the communication problem
In some cases, it might require you to tell your boss about the communication gap between you two. When doing this, your approach is very important. You can’t achieve your aim by calling him out in front of colleagues in a meeting or tabling your concerns rudely. You can schedule a meeting with him privately to discuss the issue. Be prepared to give him examples of when he communicated well, in contrast to when he didn’t do well. Try to present the problem well to move the company forward.
Finally, there is a need for critical examination when your boss doesn’t communicate with you. Bosses can communicate through behavior, gifts, verbal means, non-Verbal means, and so on. Communication is important in every organization. Sadly, not all bosses possess that great skill. The fear of not overstepping boundaries has kept some workers silent. Any more questions? In 1983, professor Howard Gardner wrote a book titled “Frames of Mind: The Theory of Multiple Intelligence”. He explained how intelligence has felt short of worthy recognition as one of the greatest human achievements. We are all born with multiple intelligence with everyone having differences in our strengths and weaknesses.
Gardner stated in his book that there are seven kinds of intelligence. They include linguistics, musicals, logical or mathematical, spatial, bodily kinaesthetic, interpersonal, and intrapersonal intelligence. In his second edition of the book in 1994, he added the “eighth intelligence”: Naturalist Intelligence.
An added knowledge: A brief explanation of the types of intelligence.
Linguistics intelligence: ability to use language correctly and efficiently, both in oral and written forms.
Musical intelligence: ability to create, identify, transform and express musical patterns, styles, and form.
Logical or Mathematical intelligence: ability to use numbers efficiently and analyze problems logically.
Spatial intelligence: ability to understand space and imagine drawings and images in two and three dimensions.
Bodily kinaesthetic: the ability to express ideas using tools or perform physical exercises with the body.
Interpersonal intelligence: ability to interpret the mental state of others
Intrapersonal intelligence: the ability to form a true and precise model of oneself.
What is Naturalist Intelligence?
Naturalist intelligence is considered to be a person’s interest in and connection with natural things around him. It can be seen in people who are intrinsically drawn to natural things such as objects, animals, plants, rivers, etc. This kind of intelligence is used to measure one’s awareness about the natural world, and observance of the changes around it.
Naturalist intelligence points to how people relate to objects and the natural things around them. People with naturalist behavior have sensitivity to nature. The eighth intelligence (naturalist intelligence) focuses on one’s ability to understand, analyze and manipulate things in their environment. We are not all born with this type of intelligence but can be developed over time.
Human survivors over the years have proven to be a result of strong naturalist intelligence. The first people on the earth had to differentiate between harmful and useful animals. Eatable foods and non-eatable foods were recognized by naturalist intelligence. Discerning climates and weather conditions have helped in the survival of human beings.
Developing Naturalist Intelligence
Naturalist intelligence just like other intelligence can be developed. Some intelligence and instincts come at birth but some can be developed. The main culture to develop is PRACTICE. Naturalist intelligence can be developed at any point in one’s life. Once you take interest in nature and its affiliates, you can pursue the interest by studying and practicing.
As said before, naturalist intelligence can be developed in childhood or later in life. Some activities could help incite this urge and turn it into reality. Practicing is very important because intelligence is not only about arithmetic or academics. We must understand that time spent on training is important. The more you practice, the more intelligent you become.
Naturalist intelligence can be developed through some activities such as camping, hiking, visiting museums, watersides, zoos, animal parks, mountains, watching national geographical shows, reading about nature, etc. Can the environment affect naturalistic intelligence? Yes, it can. The environment in which a child grew up can influence his naturalist intelligence.
What a man is exposed to is important. That is why it is important to take trips, read and watch to build out intelligence. Naturalist intelligence is developed in the brain that recognizes patterns and makes subtle connections.
Characteristics of Naturalist Intelligence
People with naturalist intelligence will show some characteristics. Note that some people naturally have this intelligence and it can also be learned. These characteristics are peculiar to people with naturalist intelligence or people who want to acquire this specific intelligence.
In general, people with naturalist intelligence have the following characteristics:
Express desire to know how things work
Thanks to naturalist intelligence, we can recognize differences between objects, people, groups, or species. The desire to know and know more about how things work is a result of naturalist intelligence.
Like discovering new things
People with naturalist intelligence don’t stop at desiring to know alone. They discover new things. More reason why researchers are still into the natural world to find out new things.
Aware of changes in the weather
Weather changes are easily spotted by people with this intelligence. Any slight change in the weather, these sets of people easily feel it before others.
Passionate about preserving the environment
Another characteristic is that they are passionate about preserving the environment. With the rise in the extinction of some major plants and animals, they preach preservation.
Like playing with objects, plants, and animals
People with naturalist intelligence like to play with objects, plants, and animals. They tend to have gardens, farm, and rear all kinds of animals.
They don’t feel bored when alone with natural things
As humans, we tend to feel bored and less interested especially when we are alone. Naturalist intelligent people feel among when among plants and animals. They relate with them like they are dealing with humans. Taming, teaching, communicating, and understanding animals are not hard for these people.
Other characteristics include:
They have an affinity for natural habitats
Good at observing patterns and styles
Easily identify colors
Make crafts and projects from nature
They enjoy connecting with nature
Children with high naturalist intelligence love to have a pet and are fascinated by how plants grow.
They show interest in science careers
Activities that can help develop Naturalist Intelligence
Normally, people with naturalist intelligence are inclined to natural things and what humans have created. Naturalist intelligence delves beyond ordinary observation into the nature of things and their functions. Identification, classification, and sorting of objects, animals, and plants of the same species are their propensity.
The majority of the activities that can help develop naturalist intelligence are grouped into the following:
Activities that help come in contact with nature. The things we see help to develop naturalist intelligence. Such activities include a visit to the forest reserves, zoo, aquarium, mountains, rivers, etc.
After contact is observation. Critical studying and observation of what has been seen further help to develop naturalist intelligence. You can observe the environment, movements, relationships, etc. Observation involves using all the five senses of organs.
Things seen for the first time might not make much meaning, that’s why you must explore. You can take samples for further studying or read more about what you have seen. You could make use of magnifying glasses, binoculars, or microscopes depending on the things to be explored.
Classification helps to develop naturalist intelligence. You classify things based on what you have seen and studied. It could be based on species relationships or reactions.
Other activities include planting, discovering, uncovering, comparing, displaying, digging, etc.
Famous examples of people with Naturalist Intelligence
Here are some famous examples of people with Naturalist Intelligence:
Charles Darwin is regarded as the most famous evolutionary scientist. He proposed the theory of evolution through natural selection. He studied evolution by gathering different species all over the world. He then published his findings in his book titled: The Origin of the Species.
Alexander Von Humboldt
Alexander was a naturalist and explorer. He was the first scientist to write about the relationship between humans and nature causing climate change.
E.O. Wilson is said to be the world’s greatest naturalist and the father of socio-biology. In his book “Ants” he wrote about how insects create structure, organizations, and hierarchies. Relating it to traits that were once thought only humans possess.
John James Audubon
Audubon is considered to be the father of the conservationist movement. He created a collection of paintings, “Birds of America”. He has inspired millions to go to the mountains, rivers, woods, etc. In search of rare bird sightings.
George Washington Carver
Carver was known for inventing peanut butter but he did much more. He studied the soil and found out that one of the ways to improve soil quality is by planting soybeans and peanuts.
Rachel Carson wrote the book “Silent Spring”. She studied and concluded that certain pesticides are causing damage to the environment causing the extinction of some plants and animals. Thanks to her intelligence, some pesticides are no longer in use.
Suitable Careers for Naturalist intelligent People
Lastly, many people considered naturalist intelligence as more of ability than intelligence. Experts taught us that this type of intelligence can be learned by practicing with time. It can be easily spotted in a child if he displays any of the characteristics listed above. Someone can possess naturalist intelligence and a couple of other kinds of intelligence. An example of this is Leonardo Da Vinci. His research cuts across many fields from the medical field to engineering and management.
Globalization means the planet is becoming interconnected by trade and cultural exchange. This wonderful piece is written to offer a simple explanation of the merits and demerits of globalization. Management of any business means putting individuals together to achieve targeted objectives.
Globalization, in a nutshell, encompasses the total effort in closely connecting the world, creating in effect a small village’s interconnectedness on a global scale. When globalization is understood with reference to business, I simply mean the interconnectedness of foreign markets and the management of several firms in a global industrial community. This involves international investment, through which a company extends its company and invests in foreign countries.
People living abroad can easily reach bent their home countries in a matter of seconds. Telegram and postal letters are close to extinction. Everything has shifted to the web now. Electronic email, popularly referred to as email, is the norm today. It’s fast, reliable, and cheap – the sole requirement is an online connection. This mode of communication has been backed by advancements in transportation. It won’t be wrong to believe that these two factors progressed hand in hand and have made our world a global village as a result.
The logistics companies that are operating worldwide have greatly benefited from these recent advancements in transportation and communication. The delivery time of these logistic companies has gone down drastically. Some courier service providers offer 24-hour delivery services if the package is to be delivered intracity. If a package is to be sent from Pakistan all the way to Canada, it takes 3 days in total.
The logistic firms ensure deliveries arrive not only on time but safe and sound. The courier service providers must take special care of perishable or fragile goods. Perishable items include cakes, snack packs, and other food items, while fragile items include gift items like perfume bottles, glass decoration pieces, and so forth. These packages must be carefully handled so as to avoid being broken or rendered otherwise defective during transportation. Send something special to your friends and family and allow them to skills special they’re.
Businesses Now Run Seamlessly With Globalization
Recent research suggests that globalization has assisted in simplifying how to manage businesses across the world. This is often thanks to the advancement in technology, transport, communication, education, and regulations of trade that creates fair trade for all parties. This attracts more people to interact with international businesses and international trade. Managers worldwide face many challenges thanks to high competition within the industry; good decisions must therefore be made so as to satisfy and maintain their customers and attract more customers for his or her products. Companies enjoy economies of scale thanks to reduction of cost within the management.
Positive Impacts Of Globalization On The Planet
Here are a few ways in which the world economy has benefitted from globalization:
More efficient markets
Efficient markets should be what every economy strives for. An efficient market is one where there’s equilibrium such that what the seller is offering to sell matches the exact specification of what the seller wants. If you improve the way you offer a product or service by doing things like outsourcing certain processes or buying from a foreign supplier that gives discounts, you’ll then afford to lower your asking price, which increases demand and affordability. When businesses don’t lower prices, they can disburse the surplus profit into such aspects as raising salaries, taking on more investments, or even creating more development activities to make extra income.
Any time that you have multiple producers competing for a hold of the economy, that’s a sure sign for consumers that there are numerous options available. When companies started venturing across foreign boundaries, what they often did was introduce a replacement standard into the worldwide marketplace. Consumers then had more options to choose from. With more competitors fighting over market share, each company must constantly look to enhance their goods or services or create more value for his or her customers. This usually comes in the form of better products and sometimes lower prices, which is almost always welcome to buyers.
If your economy depends heavily on the prosperity of another country, it’s hard to imagine either nation attacking the other. Globalization has helped improve world stability in a strange way. Although this might seem quite strange given the unrest in the world today, many conflicts that would have become ugly wars have all been averted if their country’s financial health didn’t depend upon the opposite.
More equality of income around the world
While many Americans claim that globalization has lowered their standard of living, the flip side is that many thousands of people around the world now have jobs, have started their own businesses, and can provide for their families. Living in the U.S., we take things like clean water, shelter, and plentiful food for granted. Living large is so common compared to many nations such that once we cannot buy frivolous luxuries for ourselves, we claim we are poor. Globalization may have enlightened you not to purchase another expensive gadget, but people in third world nations are largely benefitting from it because it serves as a means of livelihood for many families.
Knowledge at our fingertips
Globalization offers the sharing of ideas, experiences, and lifestyles of individuals and cultures. People can experience foods and other products not previously available in their countries. Globalization increases awareness of events in faraway parts of the world. For instance, the United Kingdom was quickly made conscious of the 2004 tsunami and sent help rapidly in response. Globalization may help to make people more conscious of global issues like deforestation and global warming, alerting them to the necessity of sustainable development.
Widening of Gap between the haves and have nots
The biggest demerit of globalization is the clear margin between the haves and have nots; where wealthy folks are literally beginning to be poor and richer are literally beginning to be poorer.
Loss of jobs
As a consequence of outsourcing, globalization might rob an entire state of its resources and jobs. This is because globalization allows jobs to be done regardless of the distance between the business, the worker, and the consumer.
Loss of Values and traditions
Although individuals belonging to cultures that are different and countries have a chance to figure alongside each other, it brings a few losses in values and tradition.
Disruption of Natural Ecosystem
As species are literally bereft of their non-native ecosystems, there are literally increased risks of them spreading diseases and disrupting the other natural ecosystems and therefore the native species of theirs.
Key Parameters Affecting Globalization
There are several key parameters that have affected the globalization process:
Larger freight vessels suggest that the expense of shipping goods between countries has drastically reduced. Economies of scale mean the value per item can reduce when operating on a larger scale. Transport improvements also mean that goods and other people can travel more quickly.
Freedom of trade
Organizations just like the World Trade Organization (WTO) promote trade between countries, which helps to minimize barriers between countries.
Better Improved communication system
In many nations, the internet and mobile technology have improved communication between users across the world.
Availability of skilled labor
Countries like India have lower production costs (about a 3rd of costs in the UK) and high levels of skilled labor. Labor-intensive industries like textile can rely on lower labor costs and reduced legal constraints.
All in all, globalization tends to be a fairly beneficial education development, although there are still some obstacles to its implementation. The Harvard economist David Bloom once said that globalization has flourished in the world economy, as they all share a strong dedication to children’s education. He also emphasized that although some nations have gone on to use globalization to extend their educational prosperity, globalization has further widened the gap between the haves and have nots.
It had been suggested at another Harvard conference that education for pre-college students be more informing also, and people students should know before getting into that, for instance, “the state of India’s economy, could affect their ability to receive and maintain employment once graduated”. The entire idea is extremely intriguing, and globalization’s impact on education will likely be significant – as it has been for many other areas of society.
Is WONDER IS THE BEGINNING OF WISDOM? In one of our articles, we talked extensively about what wisdom is. We will do an overview of what it is before we go into the subject matter of this article. Wisdom is the ability to think and act using knowledge, experience, understanding, common sense, and insight. Wisdom is one of the greatest qualities that a human being possesses. It is associated with attributes such as common sense, compassion, love, unbiased judgment, virtues, ethics, etc.
It was said that wisdom cannot be taught in the four walls of a classroom or training sessions. Wisdom can also be said to be the ability to think and make the right decisions based on experience, intelligence, and insight. Wisdom cannot be achieved without knowledge; this means that a person can be knowledgeable and yet not have wisdom.
A person cannot have wisdom without being knowledgeable. It is the amount of knowledge that you have that will determine the amount of wisdom you have. Although knowledge is not a determinant of how vast a person’s wisdom is but you cannot judge something you don’t have an understanding about.
There are misconceptions about what wisdom is, and there are connections between these words and wisdom too. The first thing people take wisdom for is knowledge. Knowledge is a learned fact, information, or skill acquired by education or the course of training. Wisdom is not knowledge in the sense that knowledge is gained over experience, while wisdom is the application of the knowledge we have accumulated with experience. They are connected such that knowledge is the basis of having wisdom.
Another thing people take wisdom for is understanding. Understanding is having a piece of basic knowledge about a subject matter. Understanding in a layman’s word is having a simple understanding of something. Understanding cannot be achieved without studying and learning about a particular thing. Without the understanding of such a thing, wisdom cannot be built in such a thing because making the right decision will be very difficult.
There are related such that without understanding, you can’t build wisdom. For instance, without a prior understanding of how a product manager should behave, improvising and making decisive decisions as a novice product manager will be very hard. Such a product manager will display incompetence in this role.
Furthermore, Wisdom is also taken for intelligence. Intelligence and wisdom almost have the same explanation, just a slight difference, which shows that both are very far apart. Both can be said to be the ability to retain knowledge and use it to solve problems when necessary. But what is the difference? Intelligence is often displayed in the things that can be taught, while wisdom deals with more pressing issues in life. An intelligent person may pass with brilliant results in academic circles, but a person of wisdom might fail if not positioned in the right place.
Let’s explain this better. A scientist once said he would have failed if he went into mathematics and arithmetic but made an excellent breakthrough in biology. What does this tell us? Intelligence can be easily displayed in academics but not in real-life matters. Wisdom helps to tackle real-life matters. A person might be intelligent and short of wisdom.
Meaning Of Wonder Is The Beginning Of Wisdom
Here is some Meaning Of Wonder Is The Beginning Of Wisdom:
To wonder is to create a route toward curiosity
Before we delve into this topic, we must have an understanding of what wonder means. Wonder means a feeling of amazement and admiration caused by something beautiful, remarkable, or unfamiliar.
The phrase “Wonder is the beginning of wisdom” might sound new to many and familiar to few people. It was a phrase used by the popular philosopher, Socrates. The phrase, as defined by Gilbert Mazzeo, is the natural curiosity and instincts you are given while you’re a child, fills up your awareness with a sense of wonder.
He further says that as we grow older, we begin the process of learning things that give us enough time to get more experienced, but a lose a little of the outlook on the life that our childhood started with. When we were little and growing up, we have some basic knowledge of what life looks like, but it will get to a point where we will be more exposed to some realities of life. Knowing that there are choices and decisions one must make in one’s life that might come with regrets or celebration.
It is important that we under the importance of wondering in life today; one has to wonder how the world works and why; and if it could somehow be improved. One can wonder how he became the person he is today or what combined to form who he is. Wondering will make you ask questions if you fit into something better. For instance, we tend to select our careers based on parental pressures, societal demands, or peer influence. Only a few numbers of people reflect on themselves and wonder what career fits them better. Reflecting on life (career paths, interests, and relationships) will aid in making wise decisions and threading the right path.
A retired crisis and risk management communications consultant, Mark Shannon added that to wonder means to look around you with a kind of innocence, a lack of judgment, and openness to experiencing things in ways you’d never imagined. He said this creates an ability to grow, to question what we once took for granted, and to delight in a perspective that may be real or absurd but is, at the same time, a way to take a break from our pressured, hectic lives and just experience.
Wonder is the beginning of wisdom simply means that the curiosity we have in knowing and learning new things makes us question things that we already know and are generally acceptable. It is the awareness that makes us seek the truth and attain wisdom. When we wonder about things, it creates an interesting awareness in us to investigate things not only to find out which is right but also to know why it is so.
The wise don’t claim to have all the answers; a wise person listens more than he speaks. Wonder creates an avenue to build wisdom through learning and questioning. One of the simple truths that we must know is that majority of all the discoveries and inventions today are a product of wonder and curiosity. The journey to these inventions and discoveries starts with curiosity. They ask themselves some questions like: Why is this thing like this? How can this thing become something better? But something like this can be created if we do this and this?
We know so much about poets, philosophers, scientists, inventors, and so on, learning from their knowledge and building on their insights but are often not encouraged to be like them. The reason is very simple, they are known as Black Sheep because of their questioning characters; some are school drop-outs, community outcasts. They don’t settle down structured beliefs and are not limited by rules, they find meaning to life out of their curiosity to want to know.
These people didn’t allow other people’s thoughts and opinions to affect them; they are not discouraged by what people are saying or doing to them. It is even certain that this set of people have gotten into problems for not living a “normal” person’s life; not following rules, challenging authorities, pushing boundaries, and creating ideas, inventions, and discoveries. The funny thing about it is that most of the alienated people then later became mini gods and significantly impacted mankind.
One might want to ask what is the connection between wonder and wisdom. The relationship between both is very obvious; when you wonder, you ask questions and also make inquiries, this leads to the further expansion of awareness. The more you ask questions, dig deep about a matter, the more curious you become.
When you wonder, it creates an energy that wants to know more. Since wisdom is the application of knowledge using experience, wondering creates an avenue to gain experience. It is also important to note that wisdom only begins in wonder and is not wonder itself. When we reflect upon our lives and our relationship, we are set for the path of wisdom, but yet self-realization is not wisdom, but it is what sets you on the path to wisdom.
Why It Is Good To Wonder
It opens our understanding to the real truth: There is some truth that we just live with because someone lived that way. When we wonder, we become curious about know the real truth.
It brings about discoveries: It was said above that discoveries and inventions are a product of curiosity and wonder. Discoveries and inventions are bound to surface once we wonder.
It brings about self-realization: Wondering brings about self-realization. This sets our feet on the path to wisdom.
It helps to build experience
It helps to overcome mistakes easily
The following are some quotes related to this subject matter.
“Wonder is the beginning of wisdom.” ― Socrates
“It is a happiness to wonder; — it is a happiness to dream.” ― Edgar Allan Poe, Complete Stories and Poems
“The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science. He to whom the emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand wrapped in awe, is as good as dead —his eyes are closed. The insight into the mystery of life, coupled though it is with fear, has also given rise to religion.
To know what is impenetrable to us exists, manifesting itself as the highest wisdom and the most radiant beauty, which our dull faculties can comprehend only in their most primitive forms—this knowledge, this feeling is at the center of true religiousness.” ― Albert Einstein, Living Philosophies
What can you make out of the word oral narrative? And what are the characteristics of Oral narratives before you? Oral is something that is spoken and not written.
You may not know this, but narratives are another word for a story! So, an oral narrative is a story that has just been told and not written down. A narrative is a verbal or written language that recounts places, people, and events.
The oral narrative is a genre belonging to oral literature. A narrative can be non-fictional, or it could be fictional. To make your understanding better, an oral narrative is a story that is handed down from generation to generation, and these stories are spoken and not written down.
People have been telling different stories since the beginning of time. You still get to hear some stories that are said to be thousands of years old. These stories were told even before writing was invented. So how did they last for such long years? They were told from generation to generation.
Parents told different stories to their children, and when these children grew up, they said the same story to their children. The cycle went on and on, and the thousand-year-old oral narratives became a part of our society today.
However, you will notice that now these oral narratives have been written down. They are written down so that it seems someone is telling a story to keep the essence of these very ancient oral narratives.
There are different categories of oral narratives, for example; Myths, Legends, Ogre or monster stories, Trickster stories, Etiological Narratives, Dilemmas stories, Fables, Spirit tales, Allegory.
Let’s get this reading a little more interesting. We will tell you interesting facts about different types of oral narratives to get you a better understanding. So let’s begin this ride!
1. Characteristics of a Myth
Myths deal with origins i.e., they tell us about the source of people or the origin of death. The most exciting part of the myth is that it tells us about supernatural beings. It makes us question if they exist in reality. Myths can talk about the stories of how the world came into being.
The characters in a myth are often supernatural beings, gods, goddesses, the first people, etc. The plot of these stories involves the previous world, which was thousands of years ago. Myths tell us about a story that has events that break the natural law of life and earth. Some examples of classic myths are the pandora box and Pele and Hi’iaka. However, you can relate better to the modern-day myths: avengers, superman, lord of the rings, the game of thrones!
So, do you believe that there is a reality in the myths told to us by our forefathers?
Or are they just oral narratives to make life more enjoyable?
2. Characteristics of Legends

Organizational behavior is the set of behavioral patterns that govern the corporate environment holistically. The action of employees within an organization plays a huge role in mediating conflicts and overcoming communication gaps. Every organization has prescribed ethical principles for organizational behavior.
Those sets of patterns and ethics help the employees to revolve around the imposed regulations and orders. Without these moral impositions in the domain of morality and disposition, the organization is destined to have significant setbacks and destruction. Thus, the debate on behavior has an important place in the sphere of rules and regulations.
How do attitudes and behavioral dispositions govern the organization?
The ethical-moral conduct is eventually displayed in the communication. The behavioral dispositions are imposed and articulated by the boss or chief executive officer of the organization. If the boss is unpredictable, moody, and aggressive, then the organization’s emotional climate remains quite chaotic. Eventually, organizational behavior is governed and articulated by the boss to the employees.
Organizational behavior frames and regulates the expression of feelings, ideas, and exchanging information with each other. Thus, without implementing behavioral ethics in the organization, the organization is destined to stay inflexible and ineffective toward expressing and originating innovative ideas.
Why is organizational behavior necessary?
Organizational behavior is essential for operating the business successfully. The brand legacy is created by imposing the right environment within the organization. The exchange of ideas and innovative information becomes possible with the adoption of moral organizational behavior. Following are some of the impacts and reasons that make it crucial to outline and create organizational behavior:
The employees’ productivity will eventually increase with the right soothing environment because of good behavior. The employees will become passionate and dedicated to the tasks they are given when organizational behavior is implemented.
Boosting employees’ satisfaction :
The employees will feel content and satisfied with organizational behavior. The environment will not bother any of the employees. A harsh and rude environment articulated by the boss shadows the impact on the employee’s satisfaction level. Thus, a warm environment created through principled behavior boosts the satisfaction level of the employees.
Increase the motivation within the organization:
The employees’ motivation level is directly proportional to the increase in the peaceful imposition of behavior. A friendly and interactive environment increases the motivation level of the employees.
The employees will feel dedicated to the work tasks and goals of the organization zealously.
Chances of better decision-making:
The decision-making process gets more comfortable with the right interactive environment created through organizational behavior models. The employees work in groups and provide the best possible solutions to problems. Staff and employees will become solution-oriented in the organization. Thus, the hard and tedious phases involved in the decision-making process become more comfortable eventually.
Right leadership in the organization:
The employees eventually adopt leadership qualities in the organization. Organizational behavior in the internal environment helps improve and polish the top attributes of the employees. Simultaneously, organizations that lack moral organizational behavior fail to inculcate leadership qualities in the staff. No organization can negate the worth of leadership skills.
Types of organizational behavior models:
This model of organizational behavior was operated before the industrial revolution. This type of model is based upon employees’ obedience and subjugation to the boss of the organization. The employees strictly follow the order and commands of the boss. This type of model lacks the possibilities of exchange and expression of innovative ideas.
This type of organizational behavior model stresses providing incentives, bonuses, and benefits to the employees in monetary rewards. Those rewards are meant to attain the loyalty and dedication of the employees to the organization.
This type of organizational behavior model tries to teach values to support the employees in attaining their goals. The managers are obligated to direct and assist the employees in their goals and objectives in the best way. This model assumes that the employee is self-dedicated and self-motivated. And thus, the manager’s job is to assist and support employees in their goals and ambitions.
This type of organizational behavior model emphasizes teamwork in the form of groups. This type of model assumes that an employee’s satisfaction requires social understanding with other employees. For this reason, partnerships and groups are formed when working. The centralized authority is eliminated to establish teamwork and foster cooperation in the organization.
This type of organizational behavior model allows the employee to provide meaning and dedication to their work. The organization demands a higher level of commitment and meaningful input from the employees to attain its goals. This is a new model that tries to nurture the utmost mindfulness of each employee.
Crucial factors that play their part in organizational behavior:
The following are the factors that play a massive role in successfully adopting and selecting the type of organizational behavior model in the organization.
The co-workers’ and employees’ attitudes and personalities have to be gauged before selecting a model.
The type of ambiance, lighting, equipment display, etc., play a demanding role in choosing the organizational behavior model.
The hierarchical structure must be evaluated before opting for the model, i.e., the centralized or decentralized network.
The type of technologies and access to information play a crucial role when choosing a model.
The work mechanism and system have to be evaluated too.
In short, organizational behavior is a broad subject that covers a massive range of topics. The organization has to evaluate the employees’ temperaments and personalities before relying upon any of the models. However, the enforcement of transparent, ethical conduct has an outstanding reputation.
