What is conventional wisdom, and where did it originate from?

What is conventional wisdom, and where did it originate from?

To most people, the term ‘conventional wisdom’ is familiar to them because of john Kenneth Galbraith’s book, The Affluent Society, published in 1958. According to Galbraith, this wisdom was something that affected the adoption of new ideas.

“It will be convenient to have a name for the ideas which are esteem at any time for their acceptability. And it should be a term that emphasizes this predictability. I shall refer to these ideas henceforth as conventional wisdom. “

– John Kenneth Galbraith

However, conventional wisdom has been around since 1800, 1838 to be exact. Several authors previous to Galbraith have used the term in their work. Sometimes, it was used in a neutral or positive sense but most times it was used for criticism. Nonetheless, previous authors used it as a synonym for ‘commonplace knowledge’. While Galbraith added ‘the’ to the phrase to demonstrate its individuality and improved upon its meaning to narrow it to those commonplace beliefs that are also accepted by society’s standards and comforts. Hence, further augmenting their ability to withstand facts that might weaken them. He repeatedly referred to it throughout the text of The Affluent Society, invoking it to explain the high degree of resistance in academic economics to new ideas. For these reasons, he is usually credited with the invention and popularization of the phrase in modern usage.

Conventional wisdom refers to all the conventional ideas and professional opinions that are commonly true. This type of wisdom is the type that most people are likely to agree upon, excluding a few exceptions here and there. People use it to make everyday decisions. Whenever new ideas arise in society, people compare said ideas to conventional wisdom before deeming them correct. In other words, consider conventional wisdom as the base ideologies of any society.

Why conventional wisdom sometimes is not useful?

As the years passed we have begun to notice the faults of conventional wisdom. And that it should only be used in a certain situation- which we will discuss later on. However, you need to be aware that going against Conventional wisdom would affect your social image and may even result in social ostracism, job loss, and severed relationships. That being said you should always go with what your gut tells you and stick to your beliefs. You shouldn’t do something you don’t believe is right just because everyone else is doing it.

However, sometimes society’s words drown your thoughts and beliefs. Hence making you doubt yourself as well as every minor decision you make. If you ever feel lost or unsure about the rationality of your decision, talking to someone who is an expert on thought development is very helpful. By doing so, they will help you evaluate your thoughts and determine their root source, whether they’re from society or your mind. Then if you aren’t pleased with your thoughts and thought process, they’ll help you think of something that suits you. You might find a variety of people with whom to discuss your troubling ideas. One opportunity you have is to talk to a licensed counselor for this or other mental health issues. You can engage in online therapy at the time that works best for you.

When is conventional wisdom beneficial to us?

Sometimes you find yourself in situations where there is conventional wisdom in abundance. Some of these situations are:

  1. When you are in a rush to make a minor decision and don’t have time to come up with or learn about new ideas, conventional wisdom would be your best option as it won’t be frowned upon in society.
  2. When you require everyone’s approval.
  3. And When considering all the other options, conventional wisdom remains the truest.

What is mobile content marketing? Everything you need to know.

What is mobile content marketing? Everything you need to know.

In this article you will get a brief idea about mobile content marketing.

The word ‘marketing’ is repeated several times when discussing the business industry. And for good reasons- which we will be touching up upon later on. But first off, let’s define content marketing as a whole.

Content marketing is generally described as a tactical or planned view. That is used when first starting a business, or as a business is growing. This approach assures that you have advertised your business attractively and appropriately. That is likely to appeal to several on-lookers, and in doing so targeting your defined audience resulting in a lucrative business.

Likewise, mobile content marketing is described as a strategic approach to marketing, with the only difference of it being digital. When Mobile marketing, your main audience would be people who have a vital need for electronic devices (smartphones, tablets…etc.) and use said devices in their daily lives. When mobile marketing, your focus should veer towards targeting websites, social media, apps, email, …etc.

Why use mobile content marketing?

Mobile Content marketing

As a leader, you need to observe every slight change in the industry, and based on that change; you should be able to adapt accordingly if you ever wish to succeed. Nowadays, everyone has a phone or some electronic device. Just take one glance around you. You’ll notice that most people are engrossed with those little devices in their hands. They cling to them like they are their only lifeline. And in some ways, they are because one button on that phone could ruin their business or social life. Therefore, your best chance at marketing your business is by targeting the broad audience of mobile users.

A study has been conducted on a wide group of people that showed that even with a laptop in the near vicinity. Almost 70 percent of people resorted to using their phones instead of a desktop. This shows that as much as laptops were vital in the past decade or so. Mobile phones are oppressive, especially on ‘millennials and generation Z.’

Mobile marketing strategy

Mobile Content marketing

It’s essential to keep in mind that mobile marketing doesn’t happen overnight or even throughout a fortnight. It takes time and planning. Now, we have talked about what mobile marketing is and why we should use it.

But I bet the question roaming your minds this whole time has been. “but how am I supposed to do that?” or “where do I start?” This is where mobile marketing strategy comes in. If not thoroughly planned, mobile marketing can be very chaotic. And it can be an overwhelming process.

As almost everyone with a business is competing to gain an audience on the same platforms. So I will walk you through this bit by bit to ensure that you end up with an organized lucrative business. Before we jump into the main steps of said strategy, let’s list a few of the things. You should take these into consideration before starting:

The layout and structure of your content

When reading articles, blog posts, or just simple updates, people tend to prefer content that is concise and straight. It should be to the point with gripping headlines – something relatable and simple.

Visual and imagery

An image is just as important as a headline, if not more. Make sure your images are eye-catching, properly edited, and fit the screen size.

Audio and videos

Make sure that any attached audio or video is clear and won’t suddenly start playing. Like those annoying ads that suddenly begin blasting music while you are in the middle of a bus or meeting.

  • Follow SEO structure while writing articles and pay close attention to the keywords you use.

Now that you have noted above points, let’s move on to the steps you need to take:

  • Similar to any project, it’s essential to set a series of goals and checkpoints you’d like to achieve by a certain amount of time. For example, let’s say your goal is to reach 1000 followers by the end of the month. Setting a goal would give you the incentive to push forward and achieve that goal.
  • Another very important step is finding your audience, you can’t jump aimlessly into the wide world of the net and without having a target audience in mind. For example, you can’t have posted about parenting with teenagers as your audience. Or posts about games for children with adults as your audience.
  • As mentioned before, people love posts that are straight to the point, especially when browsing through a screen as small as a mobile screen. Make sure you deliver your point in as few words as possible. In this case, bullet points and lists are adored by the readers.
  • Tracking your progress is essential to you as a person more than the business itself. A lot of leaders have lost motivation mid-project and gradually began losing interest to avoid that write down your achievements and strive for more. Make things interesting for yourself
What is analytical thinking? A simple explanation of Analytical Thinking

What is analytical thinking? A simple explanation of Analytical Thinking

Analytical thinking is a vital life skill. That is needed for visual thinking. It gives us the ability to scrutinize and resolve problems efficiently and rapidly. Analytical thinking is a very systematic and complex skill that involves breaking down a problem into smaller, more manageable issues. This way of thinking allows us to get to the root of a problem and work our way from there.

Why do we need analytical thinking?

How to tackle the problem is the reason why this type of thinking is essential. And is considered somewhat more superior to other problem-solving methods. Here’s what I mean, consider this analogy, let’s say the problem is a rotting tree. Many other problem-solving methods will start with cutting off the rotting leaves of the tree, then the bark while the root remains. Now realistically, the problem has been temporarily solved as the rotting tree is no longer in sight.

However, the real problem is with the root of the tree. And as long as we keep that decaying root, we can’t expect a healthy plant to grow. Analytical thinking allows you to dismantle that decaying root to plant a new seed. What is meant by all of this? It means that analytical thinking allows you to come up with effective, long term solutions. While some other problem-solving techniques provide you with short-term solutions?

Analytical thinking steps?

Luckily for us, analytical thinking is broken down into three simple steps. Thus making it very easy for us to implement this method of thinking into our lives. The steps are as follows:

  1. Collecting data: before even attempting to solve a problem, you are going to need to gather as much information as you possibly can about that problem. Having the right information will allow you to ask the right questions. The questions which are needed to solve the problem at hand.
  • Identifying the problem: now, going back to our analogy, you are going to have to find the rotting root of the tree. In other words, you are going to have to figure out what caused said problem. Always remember, the root is key. You will be able to do so by answering the questions you have asked yourself in the previous step.
  • Organizing your data: once you have completed steps 1 and 2, you’ll find yourself with a load of data. At first, it may seem overwhelming, and here is where step 3 comes along. This step will allow you to sort through your data, turning it from a jumble or sentences into coherent information that you can conclude from. These conclusions are the solution to your problem.
Motivation and leadership; How does motivation correlate to leadership?

Motivation and leadership; How does motivation correlate to leadership?

Let’s talk about Motivation and leadership and how they correlate.

Throughout your life, you’ve been told by everyone around you. Whether it’s a teacher, a parent, or a boss, always to stay motivated whenever you feel helpless or want to give up on a certain project. But what does motivation mean? Its literal definition is ‘the desire or willingness to do something; enthusiasm. Now, after reading this, your first thought would probably be ‘well, obviously Enthusiasm is needed when working on any project.’ But the problem many people struggle with is maintaining that motivation.

The thing about any project in life or any situation. In general, is that it has its ups and downs, and maintaining your motivation during those tough times is key to succeeding. Many people with the potential to be leaders failed in doing so. Because, during those rough times, they lost all motivation and incentive and fell into a state of depression. The most important thing to remember when working on anything is that it’s completely normal to feel helpless at times; it’s completely normal to feel like your whole project is trash.

You aren’t expected to feel great about your project 100 percent of the time; you are human. You’re prone to these feelings. But during those times, you should try and remind yourself what made you want to embark on this project. Remember that incentive that pushed you to start. And if that fails, take some time off the project and do something completely different. Soon enough, you’ll find that motivation return to you.

What are the types of motivation and leadership?

There are generally two types of motivation in everyday life. Internal motivation and external motivation (also known as intrinsic and extrinsic motivation). Both have their advantages and disadvantages that we will talk about down below:

Internal Motivation and leadership

First off, we have internal motivation; it’s the motivation that comes from within you as a person. It’s the desire to do something with the outcome of pleasing yourself. Let’s take a very simple example; my motivation to eat an apple is solely based on the fact that I enjoy apples. This type of motivation is regarded with personal emotions and thoughts. The good thing about this type of motivation is that it results in self-satisfaction and breeds the passion that is needed to fuel your project. On the other hand, the drawbacks are that internal motivation is a long process. A process that takes time and dedication to keep up with. And that sometimes in a workplace/class external motivation should be used instead of internal. As there are different approaches to every system that may not align with your thoughts or emotions.

External motivation

The second type of motivation is external motivation. This type of motivation you get because of an external incentive. Whether it’s a reward or appraisal from a boss, parent, or teacher. For instance, ‘I am currently working a job to get my salary at the end of the month. Your motivation, in this case, is the money, which is an external factor. Just like the previous type, external motivation has its advantages and disadvantages.

The advantage is that it pushes you always to keep improving. Think of It as levels in a game. Whenever you finish a level, you expect a reward; therefore, you keep on advancing from level to level. However, that being said, external motivation has its many disadvantages; being fully dependent on external motivation is a dangerous thing that will lead you nowhere. When your only source of motivation comes from the appraisal of someone. Or it comes from a reward is given, you will lose that passion that you need. You will slowly realize that you aren’t happy with what you are doing. And you are just following through to please others. In addition to that, external motivation creates a competitive nature that may be helpful at times. But at other times, it will just prove to be toxic.

Why Innovative Thought leadership is important?

Why Innovative Thought leadership is important?

Innovative thought leadership is the ultimate stimulus need to reach life’s peak. Change is a constant phenomenon in the world. By looking back on history and reviewing evolutionist theories, we can accept the waves of revolutions and changes in the world.

Perhaps, the changing phenomenon admits the potential urgency and insistence of the innovative thought leadership requirements in all organizations. The old traditional leadership models of businesses cause the static rigidity of adjusting with the changing digitalization. Better understand from the examples of Kodak and Blockbuster.

Both failed to lead through innovative thought leadership. Resultantly, Netflix could earn a competitive advantage over Blockbuster. The accelerated pace of the digitalization of businesses requires creative and distinctive leading styles to be flexible enough to meet the required criteria. The term came into common usage in 1994. It requires highly creative and pragmatic minds to introduce a business idea or a benchmarked vision with the right pragmatic strategy to reach to the envisioned target. A static person always lacks the visionary mind to hit the peak of success in a constantly changing world.

The innovative Thought leadership mindset

The innovative thought leadership mindset does not come overnight. It requires tremendous efforts to build and become a visionary achiever of one’s set target. If we observe the consecutive chain of philosophers from each school of thought, then it could be seen that culmination and glory of that particular school of thought have been caused by the last and recently updated philosopher.

Therefore, to acquire a visionary mindset of innovative thought leadership; one must embark on the hardships and gruesome requirements of self-sacrificing in the said journey. The personality of the innovative thought leader requires self-sacrificial events that can help the person with the utmost trust and integrity.

The self-sacrificial event examples are of Steve jobs and bill gates for creating rivalry and opposing ideas of the computer system. But their potential ability of innovative thought leadership skills created an irreversible number of followers. Likewise, Jack Kennedy had the vision of making it possible for humans to visit the moon in 1960, and remarkably, the American educators paved a way for creating industries and courses to materialize his idea in actuality. Thus, a creative and pragmatic mind can rightfully forecast and materialize the vision into actuality.

Need for Authenticity in personality for Innovative Thought leadership:

A creative and innovative thought leader requires authenticity in one’s self. Unfortunately, the fast-paced and fabricated objects in the contemporary world push sensitive souls into becoming victims of an inferiority complex. However, a creative and distinctive personality has the guts to embark and confront the world whilst maintaining authenticity. An example of a splendid innovative thought leader is the infamous Oprah Winfrey. She has the valor to confront every aspect of life with transparency and authenticity. Her magazines and Sunday videos are with the authenticity of her personality. Her fame and brand reputation are vividly visible in the world to all people.

On the other hand, Mikael Jackson isn’t the best person to be looking up to when trying to attain an innovative thought leader mind-set. His inferiority complex that led him to surgically get a fairer complexion undoubtedly cost the biggest loss to his brand and influence over time. Authenticity allows a leader to become more influential compared to other fake leaders who are barely able to maintain a perpetual influence on people. Thus, innovative thought leadership correspondingly relates to the depiction of enough valor to show authenticity.

Impact on surroundings

Likewise, the innovative thought leadership method has the grace and patience to be available for people in their surroundings. It is one of the most crucial and mandatory qualities in a creative rational leader to be responsive toward people.

Businesses, websites, and blogs tend to claim the peak of success if they are available for guiding people. The advisory services are there with great zeal by the one who has the capacity of innovative thought leadership. This skill of listening to people and advising them is rarely present in ordinary people. For this reason, the one who carries the innovative thought leadership qualities leaves influential charisma among people.

The meaning of listening and advising is the ability of a leader to gauge the capacity of people to gain flexibility with their new idea or vision. For example, Ali Baba possesses the highest share of the e-commerce market for having innovative thought leadership. The company has been seen as one of the most rigorous in accelerating investment plans in third world countries. The company has gained the momentum of success with the enduring capacity of the availability to third world countries who are seeking pursuance in the follow-up of embarking E-commerce businesses.

Conclusion

Thus, in a nutshell, innovative thought leadership is one of the perpetual capacitated styles in the right direction. It provides infinite success and a legacy in the world. The legacy cannot be challenged and denied by the people. For instance, a wide range of channels is there in the niche of cooking all sorts of recipes. But the food fusion channel on YouTube marked the supremacy and prominence among all channels.

The first reason for its prominence is the provision of a quick video on its channel. The channel provides suitability to all ranges of people. Food fusion rightly targets people’s demand in its channel through innovative thought leadership. You can not achieve The leading capacity with quick steps in all spheres of life.

A leader must adopt innovative thought leadership to mark the legacy and footprints of their initiative. The very reason for the availability of the people cannot be denied. As the digitalization has already saturated the markets and leaders require creativity. So they become an eventual personal charm for the people.
